Job Overview
- The Shift Manager plays a critical role in the smooth operation of the restaurant during their designated shifts.
- They are responsible for overseeing the team, ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining quality standards, and providing excellent customer service.
- The Shift Manager reports to the Restaurant Manager and assists in implementing policies and procedures to achieve operational goals.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and direct team members during assigned shifts, including servers, cooks, and support staff.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that each team member understands their role and performs effectively.
- Provide guidance, support, and motivation to staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Operational Management:
- Ensure that all opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor the flow of operations, addressing any issues or bottlenecks to maintain smooth service.
- Oversee the handling of cash, credit card transactions, and reconciliation of sales at the end of the shift.
Customer Service:
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, greeting guests, taking orders, and addressing any concerns or complaints.
- Monitor the dining area and ensure that tables are cleared promptly, and guests receive timely service.
- Resolve customer issues or complaints in a professional and courteous manner, escalating as needed.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that food is prepared and presented according to established standards and recipes.
- Conduct quality checks to verify food safety, freshness, and presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate any shortages or discrepancies to management.
Training and Development:
- Train new team members on job duties, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to staff to enhance performance and customer satisfaction.
- Identify training needs and opportunities for skill development among team members.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of the restaurant to identify and address any hazards or cleanliness issues.
- Enforce proper food handling procedures and safety protocols among staff.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role in the restaurant industry preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests and staff.
- Knowledge of restaurant operations, including food preparation, service standards, and safety protocols.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in hospitality or business management is a plus
