Job Description



Our client is looking to hire a Fiber Optic technician to handle the tasks of troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining fiber optic cables and systems, as well as providing technical assistance in the designing and testing of fiber optics. The ideal candidate will be able to ensure that all cabling is connected properly to prevent any data loss or failed connections and to perform routine inspections to ensure construction and other operations do not disrupt or damage our fiber optic system.



Key Responsibilities



  • Perform cable installation, construction, maintenance, and repair works as well as issue resolution.

  • Possess knowledge in all types of splicing activity, cable and safety test equipment, and use of all types of cable construction equipment, as well as the rectification of fiber optic problem areas.

  • Locate and repair cable faults to maintain the existing cable network without causing signal failure interruptions.

  • Validate and test end-to-end service provisioning for the cable network.

  • Confirm accurate cable terminations on cross-connect, patch panels, hubs, and routers.

  • Review site surveys, condition discrepancy reports, design drawings, and technical manuals for cable installation feasibility.

  • Understand construction prints and splice schematics.

  • Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections, so that a faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance.

  • Maintain project tracking information such as production sheets, time sheets, and customer-required paperwork.

  • Formulate and maintain system records and system designs.

  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment by complying with Government standards and legal regulations.


Requirements



  • OND/HND from a reputable institution is required

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.

  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship is an added advantage.

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications, understanding of technical operating systems, and ability to use initiative

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Passion for accuracy.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Logical thinking skills.

  • Self-motivated and able to work alone.

  • Manage pole climbing, working at heights, handling ladders, and pushing, pulling, and bending equipment.

  • Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
