Role Summary


Husk is seeking a Health and Safety Officer, to join the QHSSE team in Nigeria towards achieving its targets. This individual will be responsible for implementing and coordinating in all Health and Safety (H&S) programs within the company’s operations. In addition, helping in development of the health and safety culture at sites and operational plants. 


The individual must be passionate about contributing to solving one of Nigeria’s most critical challenges – the energy access deficit. This position provides the opportunity to join a growing team that is changing the face of rural electrification in many countries including India and Nigeria etc. 


Key responsibilities:


 Develop and Deliver Safety Programs:



  • Conduct Tool Box Talks to educate employees on safe work procedures and hazard awareness.

  • Prepare and deliver safety training programs to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to work safely.


Maintain a Safe Work Environment:



  • Conduct regular inspections of tools, tackles, equipment, and machinery to identify and address potential hazards.

  • Ensure all field employees and third party contractors wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their tasks.

  • Monitor work practices to identify and address unsafe behaviors.


 Incident Management:



  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop preventative measures.

  • Prepare comprehensive accident and incident reports for documentation and future analysis.


Compliance and Documentation:



  • Ensure all required safety procedures and safe operating procedures are readily available in the workplace.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training sessions, accidents, and incidents.


 Emergency Preparedness:



  • Maintain and inspect first-aid kits and fire extinguishers at all workplaces, ensuring they are readily available and in proper working order.

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire, evacuation, and other potential hazards.

  • Conduct regular fire drills, rescue drills, evacuation drills, and mock drills to ensure employee preparedness.


Safety Awareness and Training:



  • Design and deliver safety training programs for new joiners and existing employees to educate them on safe work practices, hazard identification, and emergency procedures.

  • Develop and display safety-related signage and posters throughout the workplace to promote safety awareness and compliance.


Compliance and Collaboration:



  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and regulatory changes to maintain a proactive approach to safety.


Required Skills & Attributes



  • 2-3 years of experience preferably in the renewable energy sector.

  • A thorough and practical knowledge of occupational safety laws and regulations.

  • A graduate in Engineering/Science is preferred with a diploma in Industrial Safety/Construction Safety. 

  • learning mindset and are keen to deliver hands-on solutions in the field.

  • Problem solver and can identify issues and possible solutions swiftly.

  • You can also ideally execute based on direct instruction and under guidance from other members of the team.

  • You have no issues working in (and living around) rural Nigeria and in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
