Role Summary
Husk is seeking a Health and Safety Officer, to join the QHSSE team in Nigeria towards achieving its targets. This individual will be responsible for implementing and coordinating all E & S programs within the company’s operations. In addition, helping in development of the Environment and social culture at sites and operational plants.
The individual must be passionate about contributing to solving one of Nigeria’s most critical challenges – the energy access deficit. This position provides the opportunity to join a growing team that is changing the face of rural electrification in many countries including India and Nigeria etc.
Key responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and manage E&S policies, procedures, and the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) across all company operations.
- Collaborate with Health and Safety (H&S) executives to integrate E&S considerations into all business practices.
Compliance and Sustainability:
- Ensure adherence to all environmental and safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in our environmental performance and social responsibility practices.
- Secure adequate resources for effective E&S program execution.
Risk Management and Proactive Approach:
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential E&S risks within operations.
- Conduct thorough investigations of operational E&S incidents, ensuring proper record keeping and reporting.
Training and Awareness:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive E&S training programs for all employees across the organization.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility through knowledge sharing and awareness initiatives.
Required Skills & Attributes
- 5-7 years of proven experience in developing and implementing E&S programs preferably in the renewable energy industry.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices.
- In-depth knowledge of safety principles and risk management techniques.
- A thorough and practical knowledge of Centre, State and Local social & environmental laws and regulations.
- At least one year of supervisory experience
- Have a learning mindset and are keen to deliver hands-on solutions in the field.
- Be a problem solver and can identify issues and possible solutions swiftly.
- Can also ideally execute based on direct instruction and under guidance from other members of the team.
- You have no issues working in (and living around) rural Nigeria and in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
