The Role



  • Under the management of the Protection Coordinator, in close cooperation with the protection team members, the GBV / Protection Officer will support case workers to provide SGBV case management and counselling interventions and conduct emotional support groups with women, girls and survivors of gender-based violence.

  • The GBV/Protection Officer will support the adequate implementation and coordination of the BHA consortium protection objectives and activities.


Main Duties and Responsibilities



  • Support the team to provide GBV/child protection case management services through high-quality and confidential interventions in line with minimum standards for service provision and the consortium case management SOPs. This will include assessment of needs, development of an action plan for recovery, development of a safety plan when needed, conducting referrals to relevant services, implementing the action plan and ensuring appropriate follow-up and case closure when appropriate;

  • Conduct case management in safe spaces identified in collaboration with survivors, including shelters; only conduct home visits to child spouses whilst ensuring own safety and the safety and confidentiality of survivors;

  • File and store GBV data in the gender-based violence information management systems (GBVIMS and GBVIMS+) in compliance with the information sharing protocol developed at the inter-agency level;

  • Provide emotional support group sessions to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence in compliance with best practices and the consortium protection guidelines;

  • Deliver basic SGBV training to staff and community structures, including sessions on the GBV core concepts and guiding principles and the safe identification and referral of SGBV cases;

  • Support case workers to conduct awareness raising to encourage help-seeking behaviour of GBV survivors

  • Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive, and supportive messaging on available services for GBV survivor

  • Make referrals for health care and a multidisciplinary range of services

  • Provide technical support to adapt GBV/child protection case management services to meet the age-appropriate needs of child survivors

  • Identify emergency needs for linkage with other sectors for additional/specialized support

  • Strengthen the capacity of service providers responding to GBV/child violence survivors

  • Implement risk mitigation strategies to decrease vulnerability to GBV

  • Provide information to persons vulnerable to GBV.


Qualifications

About you:



  • To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology or any other related field.


Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required:



  • 4+ years of experience in providing SGBV / child protection case management;

  • Knowledge of GBV, child protection and PSS basic principles;

  • Knowledge of GBV case management principles;

  • Demonstrated experience in working on women's protection such as empowerment programs, reproductive health, counselling, etc.

  • Previous experience in working with communities, running GBV prevention curricula, raising awareness and providing services in shelters and village settings.

  • Good communication and psychosocial first aid skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Fluency in English and the local language.


Desirable:



  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of early marriage on the individual, family and community level;

  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of child labour on child development;

  • Knowledge about basic reproductive health;

  • Commitment to achieve gender equality and end all forms of Gender-Based Violence

  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel.

  • Understanding of operational context in the Northwest or Northeast region of Nigeria.
