Job Description



Main Purpose


To provide public health education and training on MUAC measurement to caretakers. This involves teaching accurate MUAC use for early malnutrition detection and promoting nutrition, hygiene, and healthcare practices to improve children's well-being and prevent malnutrition.


Task & Responsibilities 


Welcome the Caretaker and Their Patients:



  • Welcome caretakers from other facilities or home.

  • Inform caretakers about:

  • The course of treatment at ITFC.

  • The organization of ITFC (latrines, washing areas, etc.).

  • Family food is not allowed for SAM patients in the stabilization phase.


Health Education, Hygiene, Nutrition (Daily or Multi-weekly):


Health Education:



  • Preventing diarrhea, malaria, and malnutrition.

  • The importance of immunization.

  • Issues with taking traditional medicine at home.

  • Use of mosquito nets.

  • Other topics identified in collaboration with the medical team.


Hygiene Education:



  • Hand washing.

  • Use of latrines, showers, laundry, and dustbins.

  • Hygiene of beds and eating areas.


Nutritional Education:



  • Preventing malnutrition.

  • Types of foods to eat.

  • Importance of breastfeeding.

  • In the stabilization phase, forbid family food and encourage therapeutic food.


MUAC and Oedema Training:



  • Teach the use of MUAC and emphasize practice.

  • Teach how to detect oedema and emphasize practice.

  • Provide a MUAC tape to each caretaker who masters its use.


Psychosocial Support:



  • Provide daily psychosocial support to each caretaker in the ICU and to those who lost their children in ITFC.

  • Ensure every caretaker has an admission kit (soap, bucket, mosquito net, bed sheet, plastic kettle, pot, mat, etc.).

  • Play daily with children in the transition phase, providing cognitive stimulation.


Report:



  • Provide oral and written transmissions to the nurse activity manager.

  • Provide a weekly general report of all activities, including the number of caretakers trained and those who mastered the use of MUAC and oedema detection.


Medical Confidentiality:



  • Maintain medical confidentiality and confidentiality in all situations encountered during work.


Requirements


Education



  • Bsc Health Education or related field  


Experience



  • 1year experience in the same field


Languages        



  • English is Essential, local languages; Hausa, Kanuri is a plus.
