SUMMARY OF THE ROLE


The MEAL Assistant will be a part of the MEAL team. He/she will assist the MEAL team with activities, including data collection, validation, and entry. He/she will support in coordinating with operations and assist in planning field visits and assessments. He/she will also support in ensuring Accountability in supported communities including information sharing, participation, and ensuring efficient feedback and response mechanisms.


Duties and Responsibilities


Under the immediate supervision of MEAL officer, MEAL assistant will perform the following tasks: 


Monitoring and Evaluation:



  • Assist in developing of data collection tools as described in Monitoring Plan/Performance Monitoring Framework (PMF).

  • Assist in conducting of MASS MUAC screening

  • Assist in Monitoring of OTP routine activities (Appetite test, beneficiaries’ admission, Referral, Follow-up and RUTF administration to beneficiaries)

  • Assist with data collection and verification processes as necessary.

  • Support MEAL team in conducting assessments as needed (whether through FGDs and/ or Interviews).

  • Assist in monitoring IYCF counselling activities

  • Participate in data validation meeting with Nutrition officer, CMAMS and CNMs

  • Produce M&E weekly report and harmonize monthly report

  • Assist in MoVs verification and updating of Indicators tracking table (ITT)

  • Assist in data analysis and visualization

  • Support in capturing of lesson learned

  • To work in coordination with Nutrition team to maintain regular exchange of information

  • To carry any other duties as assigned.


Accountability:



  • Responsible for handling documenting, confidentiality, and security of all informational resources related to feedback and complaints from beneficiaries.

  • Support Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms, including communicating responses to complainants; liaise with programs and operations to ensure prompt follow-up on feedback and complaints received.

  • Assist them in ensuring the functionality of beneficiary Accountability and Complaint mechanisms (CRM) and contribute to ensuring that the complaints and feedback mechanisms have been implemented as per IR policies and procedures by ensuring that the CRM elements are available, and the various stakeholders have full access to the CRM


Education and experience 



  • Minimum of Diploma, HND or a BSc added advantage in related fields. (Social Sciences e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data science, etc)

  • Experience in implementing WASH and nutrition sector project

  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in NGO setting.

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, POWERBI and KOBOTOOLBOX

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing assessment tools (e.g. questionnaire, focus group discussions).

  • Proven success in designing, implementing, and operating project MEAL systems from project initiation to closeout stages.

  • Experience in strategic planning and performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and/performance monitoring plans.

  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Working knowledge of data processing computer packages.

  • Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies.

  • Ability to facilitate and serve as a project liaison for externally managed evaluations.

  • Personal and organizational skills, including time management and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Previous experience in conflict area will be an asset

  • Good writing and speaking of in English and speaking of Hausa. Speaking of local language, Kanuri, will be added advantage.
