- The Maths Tutor is responsible for providing academic support to secondary school students, helping them enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts and improve their performance in the subject.
- The tutor will work with students individually or in small groups, adapting teaching methods to meet students' needs and help them achieve academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored instruction to students in secondary school mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics).
- Help students prepare for external exams such as WAEC, NECO and IGCSE.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and academic levels.
- Create engaging lesson plans that address students’ weaknesses and reinforce their strengths.
- Develop resources and materials to aid understanding, such as practice problems, worksheets, and study guides.
- Assess students’ current level of mathematical understanding through tests or informal assessments.
- Track and report on student progress, adjusting strategies to ensure continuous improvement.
- Help students develop confidence in their abilities by providing encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Teach study strategies and time management skills to improve overall academic performance.
- Communicate regularly with parents and teachers regarding student progress and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with classroom teachers to align tutoring sessions with school curriculum and upcoming tests or exams.
- Stay informed about changes to the secondary school curriculum and exam formats.
- Continuously improve teaching methods through professional development and staying updated on best practices in math education.
Qualifications
Education / Experience:
- B. Ed in Mathematics or a related field.
- Prior experience in tutoring or teaching secondary school students in mathematics.
- A minimum of six to ten years of relevant teaching experience.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of the secondary school mathematics curriculum.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and engaging manner.
- Patience and adaptability to meet the needs of different learners.
