Job Description

• The Maths Tutor is responsible for providing academic support to secondary school students, helping them enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts and improve their performance in the subject.


• The tutor will work with students individually or in small groups, adapting teaching methods to meet students' needs and help them achieve academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored instruction to students in secondary school mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics).


• Help students prepare for external exams such as WAEC, NECO and IGCSE.


• Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and academic levels.


• Create engaging lesson plans that address students’ weaknesses and reinforce their strengths.


• Develop resources and materials to aid understanding, such as practice problems, worksheets, and study guides.


• Assess students’ current level of mathematical understanding through tests or informal assessments.


• Track and report on student progress, adjusting strategies to ensure continuous improvement.


• Help students develop confidence in their abilities by providing encouragement and positive reinforcement.


• Teach study strategies and time management skills to improve overall academic performance.


• Communicate regularly with parents and teachers regarding student progress and areas for improvement.


• Coordinate with classroom teachers to align tutoring sessions with school curriculum and upcoming tests or exams.


• Stay informed about changes to the secondary school curriculum and exam formats.


• Continuously improve teaching methods through professional development and staying updated on best practices in math education.

Qualifications

Education / Experience:

• B. Ed in Mathematics or a related field.


• Prior experience in tutoring or teaching secondary school students in mathematics.


• A minimum of six to ten years of relevant teaching experience.

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of the secondary school mathematics curriculum.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and engaging manner.


• Patience and adaptability to meet the needs of different learners.
