Job Purpose:



The Education Assistant Officer will support the implementation and coordination of educational activities within the program. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient delivery of education services, particularly in the implementation of curriculum, supporting teachers, and managing classroom activities. The Education Assistant Officer will also work directly with students and community members to ensure that educational interventions are carried out in line with the organization’s objectives, standards, and child protection policies.



Key Responsibilities:



Support Education Program Implementation:




  • Assist in the implementation of education activities, ensuring alignment with the program objectives and educational standards.

  • Help coordinate day-to-day classroom activities, facilitating a structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Provide direct support to teachers, ensuring they have the necessary materials, resources, and guidance for effective teaching.

  • Ensure the smooth functioning of learning spaces, including setup, resource distribution, and maintaining a safe environment for learning.



Student Support:




  • Assist in managing and monitoring student attendance, participation, and engagement in educational activities.

  • Support teachers in identifying and addressing the learning needs of students, particularly those with disabilities, learning difficulties, or from marginalized backgrounds.

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support for students needing extra help, reinforcing lessons and activities as needed.

  • Promote inclusive education practices, ensuring all students, including girls, children with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, have equal opportunities to learn.



Curriculum and Learning Material Preparation:




  • Assist in the preparation, adaptation, and distribution of educational materials, including textbooks, workbooks, and teaching aids.

  • Support the adaptation of curricula and learning activities to ensure they are culturally relevant and sensitive to the needs of the local community.

  • Monitor and report on the usage of materials and resources, ensuring they are being utilized effectively.



Monitoring and Reporting:




  • Support the Education Officer in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of educational activities, collecting data on student progress and feedback.

  • Assist in preparing reports on program activities, outcomes, challenges, and successes, ensuring data is captured accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Help identify issues or gaps in the educational process and provide feedback to improve the quality of the program.



Community and Parental Engagement:




  • Assist in organizing community meetings, parent-teacher meetings, and awareness sessions to encourage community involvement and support for education activities.

  • Provide support in educating families and communities about the importance of education and addressing barriers to children’s learning.

  • Work closely with community leaders, local authorities, and parents to ensure that educational activities align with community needs and priorities.



Child Protection and Safeguarding:




  • Ensure that all educational activities adhere to child protection principles, promoting a safe and supportive environment for children.

  • Report any child protection concerns to the Education Officer or designated focal point, ensuring that proper safeguarding measures are in place.

  • Uphold the organization’s policies and procedures on safeguarding and ensure all interactions with students are conducted professionally and respectfully.



Administrative and Logistical Support:




  • Provide logistical support for the distribution of learning materials, supplies, and equipment to schools or learning centers.

  • Help maintain records of student attendance, materials inventory, and educational activities.

  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating education-related events and activities.



Qualifications:




  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.



Experience:




  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in education or community-based programs, ideally in a humanitarian, development, or emergency setting.

  • Experience working with children in an educational or learning support capacity is a plus.

  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices and child protection principles.

  • Understanding of child protection principles and commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment.

  • Sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable children, including girls, children with disabilities, and those from marginalized communities.



Organization and Time Management:




  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

  • Attention to detail in tracking student progress, attendance, and educational materials.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team player.



Cultural Sensitivity:




  • Sensitivity to cultural and local community contexts, particularly in a diverse or emergency context.

  • Ability to work with children and families from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds in a respectful and inclusive manner.

Technical Skills:




  • Basic knowledge of using office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for record-keeping, reporting, and communication.

  • Familiarity with educational tools, apps, or platforms is an advantage.
