- The Nursing Assistant in a pharmacy supports both clinical and administrative functions, assisting pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and patients. The role ensures safe medication handling, basic patient care, and efficient pharmacy operations
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Support:
- Assist patients in understanding medication instructions as directed by licensed pharmacists.
- Take basic patient vitals if required (e.g., blood pressure, glucose checks).
- Provide compassionate support to patients, especially the elderly or those with chronic conditions.
Medication & Pharmacy Assistance:
- Help prepare and label prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Assist in inventory management – stock medications, check expiry dates, and organize shelves.
- Ensure medications are stored safely according to pharmacy standards.
- Deliver medications to patients when required.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain accurate patient records and pharmacy logs.
- Handle phone calls, schedule appointments, and answer patient queries.
- Assist in processing insurance claims and payment transactions.
Hygiene & Safety:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
- Follow all health, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Report any discrepancies or adverse reactions to the supervising pharmacist.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant / Health Care Assistant with 2-5 years experience.
- Basic knowledge of medications and pharmacy operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle sensitive patient information.
